Neither food nor crap
Neither food, nor crap, 2024
Resin, paper, organic material, water, hydrochloric acid, pepsin, sodium chloride, saliva, iron
Dimensions: 40 x 20 x 16 cm
This project explores impermanence and the transformation of identity, focusing on the fluid boundaries between formation and dissolution. It investigates an ambiguous state charged with potential, where meaning is still in the process of becoming rather than fully articulated.
The work takes the form of a sculptural installation composed of two main elements. At its core is the recreation of chyme—a semi-digested substance found in the stomach—produced through a mixture of chemical compounds. Chyme represents a transitional phase: no longer food, yet not waste.
The materials used include various types of paper—sketches, notes, project drafts, and personal documents—accumulated over time and subsequently destroyed, blended, and combined with artificial gastric fluids. This process generates an ambiguous, unrecognizable matter that no longer retains its original form or meaning.
The resulting substance is enclosed within a seed-like sculptural container, conceived as a metaphor for latent potential yet to unfold. The container holds this amorphous material, evoking a continuous process of digestion and transformation in which meaning remains unstable and unresolved.
The project also includes a video documenting the transformation of the materials, further emphasizing the role of process and change. Together, the sculpture and video reflect on the fluid nature of matter, artistic identity, and time as a transformative force.
